What people don't realize is that it is one of the hardest sports that I have played. With the exception of soccer, I have never played a sport that required such a high level of stamina as ultimate frisbee does. Every point feels so rewarding, due to the fact that so much work went into it. I have played in an intramural ultimate frisbee league at the University of Windsor for the last two years. Actually, this league in Windsor has only existed for two seasons. Needless to say, we made it to the finals last year and this year we won the championships without losing a single game. As the rules state, the objective of every game is to have fun, exercise teamwork, practice fairness, and improve athletically. Winning (although extremely fun) is not the cornerstone of the theory of Ultimate.

TEN SIMPLE RULES OF ULTIMATE FRISBEE

I. The Field - A rectangular shape with end-zones at each end. A regulation field is 70 yards by 40 yards, with endzones 25 yards deep.
II. Initiate Play - Each point begins with both teams lining up on the front of their respective end-zone line. The defence throws ("pulls") the disc to the offence. A regulation game has seven players per team.
III. Scoring - Each time the offence completes a pass in the defence's end-zone, the offence scores a point. Play is initiated after each score.
IV. Movement of the Disc - The disc may be advanced in any direction by completing a pass to a teammate. Players may not run with the disc. The person with the disc ("thrower") has ten seconds to throw the disc. The defender guarding the thrower ("marker") counts out the stall count.
V. Change of Possession - When a pass is not completed (e.g. out of bounds, drop, block, interception), the defence immediately takes possession of the disc and becomes the offence.
VI. Substitutions - Players not in the game may replace players in the game after a score and during an injury timeout.
VII. Non-contact - No physical contact is allowed between players. Picks and screens are also prohibited. A foul occurs when contact is made.
VIII. Fouls - When a player initiates contact on another player a foul occurs. When a foul disrupts posession, the play resumes as if the possession was retained. If the player committing the foul disagrees with the foul call, the play is redone.
IX. Self Refereeing - Players are responsible for their own foul and line calls. Players resolve their own disputes.
X. Spirit of the Game - Ultimate stresses sportsmanship and fair play. Competitive play is encouraged, but never at the expence of respect between players, adherence to the rules, and the basic joy of play.
